Santa Barbara has many fun and exciting areas and attractions. Most people think of surf and sand when they think of Santa Barbara, but some people such as Ian Filippini Santa Barbara, know this special city for its arts and culture also. One place to find such things in Santa Barbara is La Arcada which is located right in the downtown area.
La Arcada is a collection of art galleries, shops and restaurants. It is not a mall, but a quaint little enclave nestled on State Street. (www.laarcadasantabarbara.com). The walkways located within La Arcada are laid with beautiful tiles and there are multiple sculptures and fountains to admire as well. Ian Filippini Santa Barbara especially loves the large fountain at the center of La Arcada which boasts beautiful fish and lots of turtles! This fountain is a hit especially with young children.
Besides actually visiting La Arcada, Ian Filippini Santa Barbara appreciates the history. La Arcada was actually designed and constructed in 1926 by Myron Hunt. The historic clock at the front of La Arcada on State Street was constructed in the style of old Chicago architecture and really fits into the style of the rest of the area. There is an old time (functioning) barber shop that is also reminiscent of the time La Arcada was built.
